The Blood of Benue and the Silence of the Church

Have We Lost Our Voice in the Face of Genocide?

The Land is Crying, But the Church is Quiet! In recent weeks, Benue State has once again been plunged into mourning. Reports of armed attacks, mass killings, and destruction of entire communities have emerged. Women widowed. Children orphaned. Pastors slain. Churches burned. And yet, where is the response from the body of Christ?

The blood of innocent believers is crying out from the ground, but all the Church seems to offer is silence — or at best, sanitized prayers from polished pulpits.

“Another massacre has happened, but we’ve returned to our church programs. Are we not failing the nation?”

What’s Really Happening in Benue?

While global media outlets barely cover it, Christian persecution in Nigeria is at an all-time high. According to Open Doors and various local news sources, Benue State remains one of the deadliest regions for Christians, with over 1000 people murdered in the past year alone — mostly in rural communities attacked by suspected Fulani militants.

These are not random attacks. They are targeted assaults on the Christian population. Homes are razed. Farmlands destroyed. Worshippers slaughtered in the middle of service.

Still, we ask: Where is the outrage?

Silence Is Agreement: The Church Must Repent

We do not lack buildings. We lack boldness.
We do not lack access. We lack accuracy.

This is not just a political issue. This is a spiritual indictment on the Nigerian Church. When blood is spilled and the altar is quiet, judgment is not far behind.

“There was a time when the cry from the land provoked a cry from the altar. Now blood flows, and we remain neutral.”

Where are the watchmen? Where are the prophets who cry aloud and spare not? Where are the intercessors who will refuse to be bought or silenced?

The Killings in Benue Are a Sign

These massacres are more than tragic events — they are signs. Warnings.
They signal the following:

  • The altars are cold

  • The watchmen are sleeping

  • The priests are compromised

  • The Church has normalized bloodshed

We preach favor while graves are being dug. We pray for harvest, ignoring genocide. We remain politically convenient when the Gospel demands holy defiance.

What Should the Church Do?

1. Raise a Prophetic Cry
Churches must speak up. Not politically, but prophetically. We must expose wickedness in high places without fear of losing partnerships, platforms, or funding.

2. Mobilize for Advocacy and Relief
Beyond prayer, let’s support displaced families in Benue. Let’s fund missions to hurting communities. Let’s pressure our representatives to act.

3. Repent of Compromise
The true crisis is priestly. Until the Church repents, Nigeria will remain under judgment. We must clean our altars before we criticize the throne.

4. Call for National Mourning
Where are the national days of fasting? Where are the solemn assemblies? If we remain neutral, we will be held accountable for our silence.

A Wake-Up Call to Believers

Let this not be another blog post you scroll past. Let this be a turning point. A shaking. A holy sorrow that moves us to action.

The Lord is asking:

“Who will account for the blood of these innocents?”

If the Church buries Benue’s cry under silence, we will share in its judgment.

Final Words

We do not need more influencer pastors. We need intercessors.
We do not need more church programs. We need prophetic platforms.
We do not need more volume. We need alignment.

This is the hour for the Nigerian Church to decide:

Will we continue being popular, or will we finally become accurate?

“The LORD is watching what the Church will do with the cry of Benue.”
