Take Heed: A Warning from God's Word
Take Heed: A Warning from God's Word |
Just a simple exhortation for us all this morning, I believe that soon, God will begin to manifest Himself to some of us in that great things will begin to happen our way that men will ask us how we are doing it, at such times serving God often become very difficult. That is when you will discover that you could be so busy that the two hours service on Sunday is eating into your time.
Exo.34:12 & 14 ‘Take heed to yourself, lest you make covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you are going, lest it be a snare in your midst. 14. for you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is jealous, is a jealous God.’
The scripture above is talking about taking heed to yourself and not mingle to the extent of entering into covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you are going. The next level God is taking you to, is like another land. You will have to make new friends there as you meet new people, friendship with some of these people may not even be a matter of choice it may be all you need to move on at that level, and so if it has to be on the face you must be there friends to get things done. For such a time like that God is warning ahead, He is not saying don’t deal with them, he is not saying don’t work or walk with them but He is saying don’t enter into covenant with them. You have a God who has helped you to where you are, they will come and tell you how they got to where they are today is not by God, and will attempt to show you the way, take heed.
God is warning you not to take their god as your god, neither take their ways and methods as your way and method, you are different people walking along the same terrain. If you go to the market, you meet a lot of people, everybody trading and walking together but for different mission they got there, some to buy, some to sell and some to steal while others are there to do other businesses like carrier and the rest. Same with life and progress, at every stage you meet different people but you must not lose sight of who you are.
God is warning, that He is a jealous God ahead of your ligting, anywhere you find yourself, know that you are an Ambassador of God and behave yourself as such. The meaning of jealousness of God when I think it deep scares me; I looked at it in relation to the prayer of Hannah when she said; He is God who lifts up some and brought down others, He kills some and makes some alive, He displaces and replaces at will (see 1sam.2:6-10), and no one can question Him. So if He became jealous because you choose another god over him when you get to a better land where He is taking you to, it seems to me He is saying; “if you forget me or replace me who brought you there with another god amongst the ones you met on ground, then I will live you to run your life, for I cannot struggle over you with other gods.”
My fear each time I realize one can go on a journey without God going with him is how far will such a person go without God; the truth is you cannot go far without God, if where you are today is to you without His input, then try making Him part of the journey going forward and see the speed and quality of life thereafter.
Prayer: Lord, I pray for grace to always take heed not to run alone but with you all my life, help me Lord I pray, Amen!
