FANNY CROSBY, WITHOUT EYES BUT WITH JESUS |
Fanny Crosby, is one of the most blessed and gifted writer of modern and popular hymns, only few knew she was blind. Born on March 24, 1820, Crosby was one of history's most prolific hymns, composed more than 8,000 hymns and gospel songs, printing over 100 million copies, despite being blind shortly after birth.
She is also known for her role in teaching and rescue missions. She was a household name until the end of the 19th century. Crosby was compared to the great Moody because of her influence with hymns. While D.L Moody is known for his evangelistic work, Crosby hymn were one of the sparking points in the revival movement in those days.
As people gather to listen to great preachers, Crosby hymn serves as the fore runner and tempo for most revival meeting in the 19th century. Some of her best-known songs include: Give Me Not-O Dear Saviour, Blessed Assurance, Jesus Is Tenderly Calling You Out, Praise Him, Praise Him, Save the Perishing and To God Be The Glory.
He married Alexander Van Alstyne on March 5, 1858. In 1859, the Van Alstyne's had Frances, a daughter who died shortly after she was born. Others believe that the cause was typhoid, but Darlene Neptune speculates that it may be SIDS, and her death inspired Crosby's "Safe in Jesus's Arms" hymn.
Next time you sing the Safe in Jesus Arms, let it be known to you that it was written on her bed of sorrow. On 12 February 1915, following a six-month illness, Crosby died of arteriosclerosis at Bridgeport, aged 94.
At her request, her family set up a very small tomb with the words: 'Aunt Fanny: she has done what she can; Fanny J. Crosby. God can use whoever He wants regardless of the situation and availability.
Pass me not, o gentle Savior" is one of the most sung hymns in today's churches which was written at death bed when all hope was lost on her recovery. She also wrote the popular hymn, BLESSED ASSURANCE at most trying moment in her life.
When next you have the urge to stay away from your ministry and service in the church, pick one of this hymn sing and remember a blind woman who lost all but HELD ON TO THE ONE WHO OWNS ALL THROUGH HER FAITH. Those who told you, faith is about being rich needs to know faith is also the mastery and mystery to reach your final destination, Heaven.
Faith determines your Reach. When we get to heaven I will like to sit beside her and ask her, is there anything greater than FAITH?
Blessings.
