Connection with the Shepherd

This is a very familiar talk this morning, at least if you cannot remember anything at the moment you can remember the fact that the Lord is your Shepherd, Ps.23 must have cross your mind now. I am not going too far from Ps. 23 this morning but before I go deeper into that, let me start by reaffirming to you that you are a sheep. What an animal to compare believers to, of all sharp and smart animals that are powerful and strong, complex and agile, all God and Jesus could liken us to is sheep. I have in time past given a few characters of a sheep to my readers, but let me emphasize on the fact that a sheep is weak, clawless, hornless, toothless and cannot fight; and that is where I am heading this morning, quit any attempt to fight for yourself, you are a sheep.

Ps. 23 is what I bring to you again this morning, and I want you to know that the only way the Shepherd can truly be a Shepherd to you is when you stay connected. Looking at that scripture from the last part of the last verse, it says and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Where is your desired dwelling place friend? Where you dwell will determine what you do and the company of the people you are. Remember where you walk, sit and stand goes a long way to tell who you are (Ps. 1). Having said that, you now know if the Lord is to be your Shepherd, then your dwelling place must not be far from Him. As a sheep, you have no need worrying yourself over many things you worry about today, the point is most times we don’t want to wait like sheep will wait we want to do things ourselves and then call the Shepherd to have a look, rather than let the Shepherd lead us into things. The place of leadership of the Shepherd cannot be overemphasized; it is by staying under His leadership that your discovery of the green pasture lies, you cannot discover a pasture greener than the one the Shepherd leads you to, so quit the self discovery effort of yours and follow the Shepherd this week to the green pasture. The water you go to drink from outside the leadership of the Shepherd has turbulent tendencies, that is why it may appear neat, but when you taste it with excitement you experience bitterness (Mara), the Shepherd’s water is usually still. Walk along the path He leads you this week and come back with testimony by weekend, His path is that of righteousness. 

I to say ‘no shaking’ alot, and sincerely, no shaking when you follow Him closely, though you may walk through the valley of the shadow of death, fear not because it is only a walking-through for you. Again it is the valley of shadows, it is never the real thing, shadows don’t hurt, it could only scare; and scary to those who are not connected to the Shepherd really. His rod of correction and His staff of authority are fatherly comforting, don’t be grieved by correction, He only corrects because He loves.
