What to know about the Cherubim according to scriptures
Let's talk about cherubim. You first hear about them right after Adam and Eve are kicked out of the Garden of Eden. In Genesis 3:24, it says God stationed cherubim at the east side of the garden to guard the way to the Tree of Life. Basically, they were there to make sure no one could just wander back into paradise. Right from the start, we see them as divine protectors.
Cherubim are a special kind of angel, closely connected to God's presence and worship. Think about the Tabernacle and the Temple in Israel. Cherubim were depicted covering the Ark of the Covenant in the Holy of Holies. This really highlights how holy, glorious, and protective they are.
The prophet Ezekiel had a pretty intense vision of cherubim, which he describes in Ezekiel 10:20. He realized they were the same "living creatures" he'd seen earlier by the River Chebar. They're described as having multiple faces and wings, which probably looked pretty amazing and kind of strange! This imagery points to their role in carrying out God's will and representing His presence.
Interestingly, Ezekiel 28:14 tells us that before he fell from grace, Lucifer was actually a very high-ranking cherub, an "anointed cherub that covers." This suggests he had a position of incredible honor and closeness to God. But his pride got the better of him, leading to his downfall and transformation into Satan, the enemy we know today.
So, cherubim are important figures in the Bible. They symbolize God's holiness, His protection, and His awesome power.
